Top 10 Bridges in the United States of America

The United States of America has thousands of bridges that carry people, trains, automobiles, aircraft and much more from one location to another.  Each of the bridges that America The Beautiful selected has a series of unique characteristics that stood out to us.  It may have been its age, its architecture, its length or height.  Most important is that you take a moment to make note of these bridges and mark them as a destination on your next road trip.

The Golden Gate Bridge is a suspension bridge spanning the Golden Gate, the opening of the San Francisco Bay into the Pacific Ocean. The Frankford Avenue Bridge, also known as the Pennypack Creek Bridge, the Pennypack Bridge, the Holmesburg Bridge, and the King's Highway Bridge, erected in 1697 in the Holmesburg section of Northeast Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, is the oldest surviving roadway bridge in the United States. Devil's Elbow, Missouri is one of the prettiest places on Route 66 in my opinion. There's a lot of history in this area of Route 66 in the Ozarks. The community got its start back in 1870 and was named for a particularly bad bend in the Big Piney River. Lumberjacks would float logs down the river and they would seem to always jam at this place.  Built 1923; made obsolete by new US 66 bridge in 1942.  This Two-span through truss bridge rises over Big Piney River at Devils Elbow.
